What to Eat Before a Workout
What you eat before training affects your energy levels and performance. Here is simple, practical guidance on pre-workout nutrition timing and food choices.
A pre-workout meal should provide enough carbohydrate for energy without leaving you feeling heavy or bloated during training.
If you have 2-3 hours before training, a balanced meal with carbohydrates and some protein works well — for example, rice or roti with dal, or oats with milk and a banana.
If you only have 30-60 minutes before training, choose something lighter and easily digested, such as a banana, a slice of toast, or a small bowl of curd with fruit. Avoid large, high-fat meals immediately before training, as they digest slowly and can cause discomfort.
Hydration matters too — aim to drink water in the hours leading up to your session rather than trying to catch up all at once beforehand.
