A Beginner's Guide to Working Out at Home

One of the biggest myths in fitness is that you need a gym to get in shape. In reality, bodyweight training can build meaningful strength, especially in your first several months of consistent effort.
Start simple. A small set of foundational movements — squats, push-ups, lunges and planks — covers your legs, chest, and core effectively. You do not need a dozen different exercises to make progress; you need consistency with a few good ones.
Structure matters more than intensity when you're starting out. Our Home Workout Plan (No Equipment) uses a 3-day-a-week full body structure with a rest day between sessions, which gives your body time to recover and adapt.
Progression is simple with bodyweight training too. Once a set of 15 squats feels easy, add reps before worrying about anything fancier. Slowing down your tempo, adding pauses, or reducing rest time between sets are all ways to keep challenging yourself without needing any equipment at all.
Finally, don't underestimate consistency. Three imperfect but consistent sessions a week will outperform an ambitious plan you abandon after two weeks. Start where you are, and build from there.
